Wales Open Team

Arron Jones My name is Aaron Jones I am 25 years old my job is a steel structural engineer. I compete regularly in MGA and my county team is Staffordshire silver. I have been representing Wales since 2007 through many age groups. The pony I am riding is a 14.1hh QH cross bay mare called Swoosh who is owned by my sister since 2010. I am a fun and outgoing person who loves to travel, motocross and hang out with my friends/family in my spare time. I am looking forward to this year’s World team championship competing as an all-boys team!
George Betts I’m George Betts, I will be riding Felix in my 4th Open world team championships. This is Felix’s second season doing games. I’m really looking forward to riding in wales on home turf. Good luck to everyone over the week!

John Evans, My names John I’m 18 years old and from Bridgend, South Wales. I have been representing Wales since 2012. Some of my recent achievements with the Welsh team are winning Royal Welsh 2018, winning Home Internationals 2018, U17 Europeans team 2017. I am looking forward to riding at the worlds this summer with my pony Rado. Good luck to everyone!

Ben Hopkins

Hi my name is Ben Hopkins I’m 17 years old and will be riding for wales at the world team championships this year in Carmarthen. I’m really looking forward to riding at this event, and this will be the first open world team championship I’ve competed in. I’m the reigning British, European and triple world champion in under 17’s but this year I’m on my new pony Aramis and I’m really looking forward to competing here. I was also on the winning Welsh open team at the Royal Welsh in 2018 and can’t wait to try and defend our title! I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable time at this years event and we all look forward to you coming to wales!!

Charlie Yates I am is 16 and have been competing in mounted games for ten years. I rode for Wales in the u17 team at WTC 2016 in Ireland, and again in Belgium 2018. This is my first season on Caz, a 13 year old quarter horse. I am really looking forward to stepping up to Open age group on home soil this year. Outside of riding, I enjoy playing rugby and hockey and also skiing.
Alex Edwards I am one of the more experienced riders on the MGA circuit, but riding my new horse Mimi for the first season and delighted to be selected as a reserve to represent Wales at home in Carmarthen.

Isabelle Lynch

My name is Isabelle Lynch, I’m 17 years old and have been riding since I was 6. I have been representing wales since 2013. Last year I was part of the Welsh u17 team winning Home Internationals, Europeans, and the World Team Championships with my pony Spider. I’m really looking forward to riding at worlds this year, good luck everyone!

Lowri Jones

My name is Lowri Jones and I’m 14 years old. I started riding 3 years ago and was taught by Alun Whitney, who also trains me today. My pony is called Alibi who is 8 years old and I’ve had him for 8 months. This is my 3rd year in the Welsh team, which I’m very excited for; especially competing in World Teams and riding with my cousin Sophie.

Lara Burgoyne

My name is Lara Burgoyne. I am 16 years old and have just finished sitting my GCSE’s and work on my family farm and livery yard. This is my first time representing Wales in MGA. The pony I am riding is a 7-year-old bay called Joey which I have only had since the end of last season. I am honored and proud to have been selected to ride at the World Championships and cannot wait to compete for my country.

Sophie Scully

My name is Sophie Scully, I’m 17 years of age and I’m from a small village called Banwen in South Wales. I have been riding for three years and was taught by Alun Whitney, who ‘s still my trainer now. My ponies name is Drummer, who is a 16-year-old thoroughbred. This is my second season on Drummer and my first time riding for Wales. It will be a great experience, especially riding in the same team as my cousin, Lowri. Good luck to all the teams competing!!

Cayli Herbert

Hi, I’m Cayli Herbert. I’m 16 years old and have finally finished my GCSE’s! This week I’ll be riding my amazing pony Choci. I’m so excited for my first ever world teams competition especially as it’s in my home town. Good luck to everyone competing this week, let the games begin!

Hi, I’m Looking forward to training this exciting group of riders many of them I have seen develop over recent years.
